Quantum Memories

Effective quantum memories are essential to establishing quantum information technologies over long distances without trusted nodes. We are investigating which approaches will best suit deployment in metropolitan-scale and large-scale quantum networks

The Hub is developing quantum memory devices to extend the range and capacity of future quantum communications networks. These include both ensemble memories for short-term photon storage, and qubit memories for use as network nodes. Currently, the focus is on characterising device performance; in later years, the most advanced of these technologies will be implemented into network demonstrators.
