IQN Hub announces relaunch of Quantum City to engage and inspire the public on quantum technologies

7 October, 2026

Quantum City – a major initiative to engage and inspire the public on quantum technologies – has been officially relaunched with a new website, updated resources and a new strategy aimed at highlighting training opportunities and career pathways across the whole quantum technologies sector. Designed for a wide range of audiences, Quantum City makes quantum science and technology accessible, engaging and relevant.

Funded by EPSRC, Quantum City is coordinated by IQN Hub on behalf of the UK’s network of five Quantum Technology Hubs. By bringing together expertise from across the quantum ecosystem, the initiative provides a trusted platform for informing, inspiring and engaging audiences about the opportunities and implications of emerging quantum technologies.

Quantum City reflects the rapid progress being made across the UK quantum sector and the increasing importance of engaging the public with research and innovation that could shape the future.

As the public engagement initiative of the UK National Quantum Technologies Programme, Quantum City brings together expertise from across the UK’s quantum ecosystem to showcase how quantum technologies could transform areas such as healthcare, climate action, security, communications and transport.

The new platform will help people explore quantum breakthroughs, discover training opportunities, learn about career pathways, access educational resources and connect with the growing quantum community.

Professor Gerald Buller, Director of the IQN Hub and member of Heriot-Watt University’s IPaQS said:

“Quantum Technologies will create immense societal, economic and strategic value to the UK in the years to come. It is vitally important that we attract the future workforce to this expanding quantum ecosystem. Quantum City is an exciting national campaign that will increase public awareness in the emerging quantum-enabled economy.”

Quantum City will be unveiling its new look and exhibiting at New Scientist Live this weekend. Taking place at Excel London from 10-12 October, the festival attracts tens of thousands of science enthusiasts, aspiring innovators and school pupils, offering a unique opportunity to discover the science and technologies shaping our future.
